Take Five with Movement Specialist Leigh Gerson

We know you as @gersonperson, but where are you from?
NYC

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I hate being called a runner.

What’s your go-to sneaker?
NB x ALD 990s

What Jordan silhouette is your favorite?
The 4.

What’s one sneaker that is on your wish-list right now?
Off-white Beige Odsy-1000 + Pyer Moss X Reebok Experiment 4 Trail blue/white colorway. Can't pick JUST one.

How would you define yourself in three words?
Intelligent, Eclectic, Aquarian

What's the last book you read?
"How to Be Anti Racist" + "Advances in Functional Training"

How would you describe your style
Simple, effortless/sporty. All about the easy fit. Never spend more than 5 minutes getting dressed. You can never go wrong with an oversized black graphic tee. #hudsonvalleyhypebeast #erewhonfits

What’s your idea of a perfect sneaker?
Goes well with a casual fit or dressed up and decked out. comfort is king. Treat your feet like they are the only thing between you and the ground (because they are).

How does a perfect pair of sneakers make you feel?
Like I know a secret that no one else does.

What are you inspired by?
I pull most of my style inspiration from my friends. they always seem to have a leg up on the best drops and collabs. I've been really focused on fashion for function and with a social purpose. Since the start of the pandemic I have limited my clothing purchases to those that support social justice initiatives or my friends. Being able to use my style to start conversations...

If you could collab with any brand and design your own shoe, which would you choose?
SUCH A HARD DECISION!!!!! I just got these really funky, chunky sandals from Burberry. Never really thought it was my style so I'm going to go with Burberry because there's definitely an opportunity to change minds.

What about Common Ace is exciting to you?
I think women navigating the streetwear space and curating not just a look but an ethos for other women is very important. It has the opportunity to introduce individuals to a world-wide community that we don't necessarily get access to shopping in the mens department on our own. Ya know?

Who is your style icon?
I gotta give props to some of my friends who really know what's up, so not one "icon" but legendary fits leaders (in no particular order): Hakim Tafari, Andrew Craig, Brian Saint-hilaire, Cesar Villalba, & Lionel Brodie.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Take your time.
