Take Five with Victoria Chiang

Where are you from?
Long Island, NY

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I was in a co-ed fraternity in college #KDR.

What’s your go-to sneaker?
New Balance 990 V3 in grey (still the best 990's to date imo)

What Jordan silhouette is your favorite?
The 4's have a special place in my heart.

What’s one sneaker that is on your wish-list right now?
Nike SB Low "Paris" (shoot for the stars?)

How would you define yourself in three words?
Motivated, compassionate, impatient.

What's the last book you read?
Men Explain Things to Me by Rebecca Solnit

How would you describe your style?
Bold, eclectic, and somewhat impractical (haha). I love patterns and graphics (especially when there's a personal connection i.e. my Helmut Lang Mutual Funds top, vintage Tiger Woods tee, Starry Night pants), unorthodox materials, and colors. I'm a big fan of pants... statement pants to be exact. I'm notorious for wearing pants so noisy that they'd get me kicked out of a library.

What’s your idea of a perfect sneaker?
The one that I designed in my head that doesn't yet exist but get back to me in like 5 years 😉

How does a perfect pair of sneakers make you feel?
Like a brand new woman. Kidding. Depends on the sneaker but if it's a gift from a loved one, then I feel eternally hella emotional, giddy, and grateful.

What are you inspired by?
My parents' steadfast journey and pursuit from Hong Kong to the states and the several friends and peers in my network that I see out there hustling and sparking change.

What about Common Ace is exciting to you?
The fact that it's not just about sneakers, consumerism, or trends - it's about uplifting and shining a spotlight on women across different communities and multiple disciplines.

Who is your style icon?
John Mayer on weekdays, Fran Drescher on weekends.

If you could give advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Stop trying to be perfect, step outside your comfort zone, get more sleep, invest in Amazon.
